  • For small dogs, the width of the ramp should be 6 to 10-inch (150 to 255mm)
  • For medium sized dogs, the width of the ramp should be 11 to 14-inch (256 to 355mm)
  • For large sized dogs, the width of the ramp should be 15 to 18-inch (356 to 455mm)

HEIGHT

  • Measure the height from the floor to the top of the couch or bed using a measuring tape. Write down the measurements.

If your dog is strong enough to handle a step up, you may make this height 2 to 3 inches lower than the height of the bed or couch.

LENGTH

  • Decide how much longer the ramp needs to be.
  • Count according to the following formula:

The slope of the ramp= Length of the base/ height from floor to bed or couch

  • Base length= Slope of the length X height from floor to bed or couch.
  • Or base length= 2 x height from floor to bed or couch
  • For you easy understanding let’s look at an example.
